I have been pretty much radio silent through the Pandemic and our Election Season.
Trolling is simply too easy and accomplishes nothing. I spent nearly the entire year actually reaching out to people who claimed they “want change”. Unfortunately I have found nearly 100% of people making those claims on both sides are simply full of shit and doing things to splinter us apart and actually create hate in order to gain more power, more money, more fame, more likes or more shares.
Many people have understood for centuries that those in positions of power divide the populous to maintain power and divert attention from their actions and shortcomings. I still stand ready to work with anyone to improve America. Every Citizen is my Brother and Sister even though I may not agree with them politically or socially.
The actions during the Electoral College debate and protest where an embarrassment and a failure at every level from the Top of every office within Government through the Courts and down to the Individual Citizen.
I recognize I have personal biases due to my life experiences and actually working in different jobs involved within this debate, but I am willing to listen to and come up with ideas with nearly anyone. I am going to go through some observations I have and topics I have tried helping with this year.
First, what many people have been protesting would be Criminal Justice:
People often blame the lowest level of the worker/person and the “system” for the failures of people at the middle and top level. To use an analogy, don’t get your cackles up its just a example of structure and blame, you don’t blame a trash man for failures if the refuse “system” is broken. If the dump leaks and if recycling materials are not sent to the proper area finding their way to the refuse area it’s not likely the fault of the guy who drives down the street and picks up the trash. A mid to upper level person tells the collector where to go, what to do, what to pick up and where to drop it off.
The legal system is very much like this. Cops are confined to 1. The laws on the book, 2. The guidance of the Distract attorneys on what they will prosecute and 3. Assignments from the Leadership of the Departments.
Many people think any discrepancies in prosecutions/arrests are the fault of the Cop. In actuality the D.A. and prosecutors decide who they are going to charge and who they go after to do jail time. In a top down system the D.A. Pushes his plans and exposes his agendas on “Justice”. In a Major City who do you think the Prosecutor is influenced by? Dirty little secret, its the Mayor. In Unincorporated areas the they are Influenced by the D.A.
We need to be honest the origin of any problem, real or perceived. Local politicians lazily and cowardly blame the Cop on the street for everything when they (the Cops) are conducting the policies they (the Mayor/Politicians) put in place.
One obvious and historical reference would be the Democrats blaming Republicans for mass incarceration when, who wrote and pushed for the 94’ Crime Bill and Mandatory Minimums?
(Expanded and Updated Post)
Another misconception is that Cops target minorities specifically. In the vast majority of Departments policing and staffing or patrol areas is based on computer programs called Geographic Information Systems (GIS) crime data analysis. These systems work on computer algorithms that Silicon Valley came up with. If you’re unaware, Silicon Valley is a extremely liberal far left or Democratic influenced location. These systems take all 911 calls and reports of crime and traffic accidents and so on and tell the departments how to best deploy their Staff (Cops). If there are lots of accidents by school zones, traffic Cops are sent to get it under control and reduce speeding and get people to follow traffic laws. If an area has lots of complaints of drug deals or shootings More patrol (Cops) are sent there and they are asked to stop, talk and interact with people in an attempt to discourage drug sales and be present to possible discourage shootings or get illegal guns off the streets.
This can seem like bias Policing, but if the arrests for illegal/criminal behavior subsides the policing presence gets reduced because the computers tell the department to send the Cops to other higher crime areas. If you don’t believe me look up GIS and how crime analysis systems work and where the companies who made them are from.
One thing that also drives “Saturation” patrols are Politicians. If a Mayor is getting a lot of complaints from his friends that have businesses complaining about people selling loose cigarettes or food trucks and so on the Mayor, especially around election time will often command the police to “Saturate” the area to show the people the Mayor wants votes and campaign support $ you guessed it donations from.
At the same time the Mayors order “Saturation” patrols to get cash from their friends, the Mayors often go into the community and the talk to Community leaders and say the Police Reform is on his agenda, agreeing with the people saying they are unfairly targeted.
I’ll give you a dirty little secret, if Cops could get away with simply walking around their Patrol areas talking to people and only had to arrest people when they where called by citizens the vast majority would be doing exactly that.
It takes 10-20 pages of typing and hours of work for every person arrested. Just knowing the nature of most people, do you really think people would willingly create that much additional work for themselves if they could avoid it?
And on a final note. The primary and easiest way to prove discrimination and force change is through real data, provable and repeatable statistics. The FBI maintains the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system. https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/ucr
There are simple ways to prove discrimination or police brutality. Add to the system and require every arrest of a citizen a couple of fields for statistical analysis.
1. Every arrest. Force used to effect the arrest and injuries sustained.
This simple field would flag statistical anomalies, it would also give the criminal report number to the case as well as booking number so you could view booking photos. You could also review the medical clearance reports from the hospital. Most people don’t realize, in most if not all Departments if force is used to arrest someone and there is any injury the person is required to have a medical examination by a doctor. All of that would be able to be tracked.
But, many people seem not willing to accept this. Cynically, I believe they don’t want this data because it would largely disprove the lies they have been using to manipulate people for financial advantage and votes.
Again, anyone who ever wants realistic ideas to improve things can simply comment or reach out. People have ideas that can help, why not try?
